TRAILER for CROSSING
directed and produced by Roger Evan Larry, written and produced by Sandy
Tomc, starring Sebastian Spence (Dawson's Creek, First
Wave), Crystal Bublé (Cold Squad), Fred Ewanuick (Corner
Gas) and rock star Bif Naked - a gangster who discovers the
thrills and perils of cross-dressing. This romantic thriller won silver at Cinequest (‘05) for the Best First Feature
Prize / Emerging Maverick. In a pre-release review, Rob Salem of The
Toronto Star says “CROSSING... surprises and delights in strange and
unexpected ways. Expertly and evocatively shot, wonderfully cast and vastly
entertaining.” Gary Morris, editor of the Bright Lights Film Journal calls
CROSSING “a striking entry into the neo-noir canon.” “Crossing”
is Larry’s feature directorial debut.
OPENING FRIDAY MARCH 30 at FIFTH AVENUE CINEMAS
‘MY GREATEST MASTERPIECE’ music video featuring BIF NAKED, Sebastian Spence &
Crystal Bublé, directed by Roger Evan Larry, produced by Paul
Armstrong. Acclaimed Canadian pop punk princess Bif Naked had
a key role in Roger Evan Larry’s feature thriller “Crossing”
as drag king thug and also contributed the original song “My Greatest
Masterpiece.” The song is the lead single on The Warner released
‘Crossing’ soundtrack that features, among others, Swollen Members, Nelly
Furtado, Champion, Michael Buble, Buck 65 and Sara Slean.
DONOVAN LIFE directed by Roger Evan Larry, written by Roger
Evan Larry and Sandy Tomc, starring Crystal Bublé, Sebastian
Spence and Matty Finochio, sponsored by Cressey - a new
comedy up on YouTube with a I Love Lucy meets Sex in the City vibe.
3 episodes X 4 min.
TRAILER for ‘FIDO’
directed by Andrew Currie (Mile Zero), written by Robert
Chumack, Andrew Currie & Dennis Heaton, produced by Blake
Corbett & Mary Anne Waterhouse, co-produced by Trent Carlson &
Kevin Eastwood, starring Billy Connolly, Carrie Anne-Moss (The
Matrix, Memento), Henry Czerny, Tim Blake, Sonia Bennett &
Mary Black. FIDO is certainly not your average zombie movie.
After all, how many zombie flicks do you know that star a Scottish comedian
(Billy Connolly) as the title character? Far from being a typical gore fest, FIDO
is a clever satire that has everyone in stitches. From film critics to film
festival goers at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival,
everyone is laughing their heads off. This often strange and delightful tale
follows Timmy Robinson (K'Sun Ray), a lonely boy whose family is the only one
on the block without a zombie. One day, in a desperate attempt to 'keep up with
the Joneses', his mother (Carrie-Anne Moss) surprises the family with a
six-foot rotting zombie soon-to-be-dubbed, Fido. A perfect addition to the
family portrait. Trouble ensues, however, when Fido eats the next-door
neighbor...
A
boy-and-his-dog movie for grown ups, FIDO will rip your heart out.
Distributed by TVA.
FIDO opens in
theatres across Canada this Friday, March 16th!
CAUTION! Zombies may
attack.

THE END OF MY ERA:
Hi gang,
You may have heard that I'm going to prison in Kingston. Or maybe you heard
that I was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The truth: I've been recruited to be the Series Producer/Head Writer for the
first season of a new documentary TV series. This is a Toronto-based 13 X
30-minute 'factual entertainment' series for the TVTropolis network (formerly
known as Prime). Show title TBA.
So my wife Sarah (co-producer of the Cold Reading Series), myself, and our
collie/lab Kyle, are moving to Toronto on Sunday April 1st. We start our new
jobs April 9th - Sarah's been hired to work on the show as our ace researcher.
Which kicks ass.
I will miss the hell out of you all.
Feel free to recommend any good people or dogs I should meet in Toronto. I'm
also seeking a men's rec league ice hockey team to play on (I’m a 6’2”, 185 lb
speedy left winger who shoots left and frequently) in case the Leafs cut me.
Before we go, we're having a Moving Sale at our East Van house this Saturday
and Sunday afternoons, March 17/18th.
Location: 657 East 10th Avenue (@ Fraser St). C'mon by and say hi, and/or grab
some cheap crap from my closet.
Also: on Wed March 21st, I'm hosting my last Celluloid Social Club for a long
while, 8 pm to late at the ANZA Club. Hope I can see you for a goodbye drink.
Info: http://www.celluloidsocialclub.com
Have a great 2007/08, vote early and often, and please keep in touch. My email
will stay the same: ken@voiceoftreason.net
We’ll be back some day. If all goes to plan, we’ll loot Toronto for a while and
then return to BC to expand our empires.
Take care of yourself and I love your work,
Ken

HOT SHOT SHORTS FILM CONTEST
WINNER
‘THE BAR’ WRAPS PRODUCTION
Vancouver,
BC…The Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest is proud to announce that the
winning short film in the 1st Annual Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest, The
Bar by Peter New, has wrapped production in Vancouver, BC. The
film was directed by Mike Jackson and stars Peter Deluise and Simone
Bailly.
The
film stars Peter Deluise (Stargate, 21 Jump Street), Simone
Bailly (The ‘L’ Word, DaVinci City Hall), Nicholas Elia
(Masters of Horror, White Noise), Berit Beattie and Peter New (Black
Christmas, The Delicate Art of Parking).
“It
is next to impossible for me to express my gratitude to our fine cast and crew.
And what an honour to have been chosen as the first ever Hot Shots Short! I am
humbled - not an easy task - ask anyone! I'm the greatest guy ever and I
know it, so humility for me is like putting on a too small shirt, no pants and
trying to crash a fashion show - just FEELS wrong, y'know? Anyway, I am truly
and humbly grateful to a talented and generous group of people, all of whom
donated their time and energy to making this film happen. Here's where I'd put
in an in-joke if we had one, but I'm not sure we do. Like
"Bagelsauce!" which I doubt means anything to anyone. So...
Bagelsauce to everyone!” - Peter New, Writer
“I'm
very proud that we were chosen for the inaugural 'Hot Shot Shorts', and I feel
incredibly privileged to have gotten to work with such a fine crew and
brilliant talent, both in front of and behind the camera. It's been a
tremendous opportunity, as well as a welcome chance to spread Peter New's
diseased sense of humour like a plague-vector throughout much of the
english-speaking world, toppling entire civilizations in its wake.”
-
Mike Jackson, Director
The
film is written and produced by Peter New of Steam Powered Films,
directed by Mike Jackson (Dial 'A' for
Alphaman, Hooped!, Hell's Habit), produced by Dan
Schlanger of Dilemma Productions, executive produced by Susin
Nielsen & Gary Harvey (Robson Arms), filmed by Kamal
Derkaoui, production designed by Andrew Li, costume designed by A.J.
Andrien, production managed by Julienne Park with Paul
Etherington as 1st AD and Alix Falkiner as Location
Manager. Melissa Perry and Larkin MacKenzie-Ast cast the film.
The composer is Chris Gestrin.
The
Bar tells the story of Mac,
a down-and-out writer who thinks he’s lost everything, and Adeline, a hooker
with a history of feeling out of place, as they reveal truths about each other
– eventually discovering each other through the exposure of their inner turmoil
as represented by cans of soup and enormous signage.
The Bar is a typical boy-meets-girl story involving chicken breasts, pool
sharks, and a xylophone. Film noir meets Airplane! This Bar is the place
where nobody knows your name.
Peter New's writing credits include: Double Exposure: The Snides of March;
Long Hard Comedy Rocket; Hooped!; and Point Blank (for
which he earned a Leo award for best writing - comedy/variety).
The Bar was selected
among 96 script entries in the first annual Hot Shot Shorts Film Contest
submitted at The Celluloid Social Club, a monthly screening of
independent short films. Six script finalists were then read at The
Cold Reading Series in August 2006.
The
purpose of the Contest is to provide resources and support for the filming of
an exceptional script that otherwise might not be made. Hot Shot Shorts was
initiated by Ed Brando at Paladin Show Services, Scott
Campbell of Matrix Professional Video Systems/Maxell Canada, Paul Armstrong and Aaron Houston of The
Celluloid Social Club and Michael George of the Cambie Film Center.
Since then a wide variety of sponsors have come on board (see attached below).
Once
completed the film will play film festivals, appear on-line and screen at The
Celluloid Social Club.
